For God's sake, change that sign to what it originally said.
So, I guess it’s just about official: Verizon Wireless is getting the iPhone. The news will apparently break this Tuesday in New York, at least that’s what everyone (and by everyone, I of course mean the tech-blog nerds) are speculating.
Congratulations, America. You are finally about to join every other country in the world by featuring iPhone on multiple carriers, although now it will only be 2 carriers whereas everywhere else has iPhone on at least 3 different carriers, so I guess it’s not really “multiple” carriers.
Anyway, at least 3 years have gone by with everyone saying Verizon would get the iPhone in the next few months, next year, etc. So maybe they are just jerking the posers around really good this time, too. Either way, I’m quite ambivalent about the entire prospect of my phone company finally getting “the world’s most popular smartphone.” On one hand, the iPhone is a great phone (as much as I hate to say that because everyone and their mother says the same damn thing). I switched to AT&T for a couple of months back in 2008 and it was pretty fun. But I quickly returned to Verizon after having a dispute with AT&T. And now I’m still with my spiffy VZW BlackBerry.
But, on the other hand, every single poser in America is going to create a ridiculous scene for the Verizon iPhone (i.e. – tent cities waiting 5 days in the wind, snow and cold just to be able to drop up to $700 on a fucking cell phone. And the news actually glorifies it. Fuckers.) Also, even more people will be on Verizon to jam up the network and quite possibly turn it into the terrible service that is AT&T. And, of course, as is custom with any new phone, much as the AT&T iPhone 4 suffered, there will always be some sort of first-run glitch to plague the device. So really, it is better to wait.
So, in essence, a part of me does say “get a Verizon iPhone,” but considering all of the hype, posers howling for it, and the fact that I still have about another year on my current contract and can’t upgrade at a feasible price if it does in fact come out next month, I think I’ll be staying with my BlackBerry. Besides, do I really want to give up BBM privileges? Nah.
